Seven women in traditional attire showered rose petals and garlanded Hillary Clinton to shehnai playing Raga for Royalty, as soon as she stepped inside Taj Palace Hotel.
“When Clinton arrived, an aarti (dedicated a chant to her) and tika ceremony (anointment) was performed,” said Sanjuktaa Roy, head of corporate communications, Taj Hotels.
The hotel paid attention to details, like using light fragrances, as she is averse to strong smells.
“Having stayed at the Grand Presidential Suite at the Taj Palace earlier, she remembered certain changes. For example, she noticed during her 2005 visit, there was an antique swing in her bedroom. When she asked about it, we took her down to the lobby where it was now placed,” Roy said.
For tea, she was offered a tea menu comprising of the finest Darjeeling and Assam teas, including Wah Tuk var estate, Sing tam, Kho cha, Marrion Bari, Makai Bari, and Avon grove. But lemonade that enticed her. “Clinton especially mentioned that she enjoyed the masala lemonade,” Roy said.
Her bedroom was furnished with silver leaf object d’arts, Swarovski crystal chandeliers, custom-designed acoustics from Bang & Olufsen, motorized drapery systems and a posture pedic mattress, amongst others.
Equally fancy was her bathroom, with a tropical rain-shower experience, freestanding whirlpool bath, and free-standing circular bathtub, the size of a mini-swimming pool.
Photos of her family adorned her walls, to make her feel at home.
