The East Delhi Police on Tuesday arrested a member of a gang that allegedly cheated as many as 300 senior citizens by ‘hypnotizing’ them.

The police said the accused used to lure senior citizens into believing that they were their relatives and then offering them gifts. Once they were able to win over their confidence, they would allegedly hypnotize them and take away their belongings.

Ram Gopal, member of such a gang, was arrested following investigations into a senior citizen’s complaint.

“The gang were involved in about 300 such cheating incidents in Delhi and NCR,” Additional Commissioner of Police (East) KC Dwivedi.

On June 16, the complainant, Om Prakash Khurana of Geeta Colony, was on his way to his house when two boys approached him. One of them touched his feet and sought his blessings. The same boys later hypnotized him and took away his gold ring and gold bracelet.
