A flight lieutenant of the Indian Air Force (IAF) who went from Assam to Tamil Nadu for training has mysteriously gone missing, his relatives said on Saturday.
Noktempong Jamir, 26, went from the IAF station at Mohanbari in Dibrugarh on October 5 for a 21-day training at the Indian Air Force Administrative College in Coimbatore, Meren Longkumer, a cousin of the officer, told IANS in New Delhi.
On the afternoon of October 7, Jamir reportedly went out to make some telephone calls but did not return, Longkumer was informed by Sandeep Nair, an IAF officer who too had gone for the training from Assam.
Jamir's roommate Ajit Kumar, who was the last IAF officer to see Jamir, said the officer from Nagaland showed no anxiety or stress when he left his room. His belongings are in tact.
"He had happily attended his classes for the initial two days and vigorously studied till late night before he went missing," Kumar told Longkumer.
IAF officials lodged a police complaint on October 9. The missing officer's parents live in Nagaland and were told about their son by the IAF Dibrugarh unit.
Some of his worried family members have reached Coimbatore to know what really happened.
According to them, the Tamil Nadu Police has not been able to get any clue about Jamir.
"His disappearance is a real mystery," Tiasangla, his cousin sister, told IANS over telephone from Coimbatore.
"The police have spoken to or written to all his colleagues and friends, and they don't have an answer to what may have happened," she said. "We have also made our inquiries.
"Jamir had graduated in engineering from Coimbatore. He was a very good football player too. He had no girl friend and he had no enemies. So where could he have gone? And why?"
The police have put out advertisements in two Tamil newspapers and also alerted railway authorities about the missing officer.
The IAF has formed a special investigating team to trace the officer. Ft Lt Jamir has been with the Unit 127 of IAF for the last one year.
