The incident reportedly occurred at the coaching centre on Barakhamba Road on March 22 when the victim — who did not wish to be identified, was taking a class with the duo.

"According to the complainant, the duo first made indecent advances at the victim, a resident of Gurgaon, who used to study in the same class," said a senior police officer on condition of anonymity.

"On being ignored by the victim, the duo, Pawan and Ravinder, made lewd comments about her with the intent of humiliating her in front of their class."

Police said that the accused are hostellers lodged at New Ashok Nagar in west Delhi and have been in the capital for the last two years.

"When the victim confronted the duo and threatened to bring it to the notice of the authorities, she was cornered after class and verbally abused," the officer said.

According to police, the victim made a formal complaint at the Barakhamba Police Station on Wednesday.

"The victim’s complaint was registered immediately and both Pawan and Ravinder were arrested for outraging the modesty of the woman," said the officer.

"They have been booked under relevant sections of the law," said Shankar Dash, ACP (New Delhi).

Later, the two were released on bail.

"The duo could well be on their way to becoming IPS/IAS officers in future. But since the offence is bailable — we had no alternative but to let them off," added the officer.

The incident brings to mind a similar one in which about 50 Delhi Police constabulary aspirants had molested dozens of female students in Delhi University’s north campus in September, 2007.
