Want to study while you work? The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) will start the sale of forms for its distance learning undergraduate courses from Monday.

Outstation students can order the student handbook and prospectus by post while those in Delhi can get it by submitting a demand draft.

IGNOU offers various courses for undergraduate students. Some of its most popular courses are BA (general) and with the option of major in Hindi, English, political science, history, economics, public administration, sociology, philosophy and psychology among others. The last date of applying is July 29.

The science courses offered by the university are also popular with options for B.Sc. in mathematics, physics, chemistry, botany and zoology.

In IGNOU too, as in other universities in the city such as Delhi University, B.Com. is amongst the most sought-after courses. The university also offers BBA in retailing.

“The course has a modular approach. The first year is a diploma in retailing while the second year is an advanced diploma in retailing. The third and final year gives you the degree in retailing,” said an IGNOU spokesperson.

Established in 1985, IGNOU is associated with government agencies and other open universities through international organisations like UNESCO, the Commonwealth Secretariat, the Commonwealth of Learning, the World Health Organisation and the World Wide Fund (WWF).

The university has also entered into bilateral and multilateral alliances with several countries such as Australia, United Kingdom, France, United Arab Emirates, Madagascar, Papua New Guinea and Liberia.

The university also offers popular job-oriented courses such as Bachelor of Tourism Studies, Bachelor of Social Work and Bachelor of Computer Applications.

Individuals can get the student handbook and prospectus by post. They have to send a demand draft of Rs150 in favour of ‘IGNOU’ payable at New Delhi to the registrar, Student Registration Division, Block-3, IGNOU headquarters.

Students living outside Delhi can obtain the student handbook and prospectus on payment of Rs100 from their concerned regional centres.
