The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) de-sealed the Inderlok Metro Mall on Thursday on directions of the Lt. Governor. The civic agency had sealed the mall on June 8 alleging that a private developer has constructed it without authorisation from the civic body.

At a meeting chaired by the L-G on Tuesday to clear the standoff between the MCD and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the L-G had instructed the civic agency to de-seal the complex.

Ranjan Mukherjee, Officer on Special Duty to the LG, said the L-G told the MCD that any establishment inside the premises of a Metro station does not need its sanction.

“The mall is inside the premises of the station after its extension work,” he added. He also said trade tax and trade licence will be mandatory for such commercial units to operate.

The high-level meeting was attended by DMRC Managing Director E. Sreedharan and MCD Commissioner K.S. Mehra.

The civic agency had said the private developer, which constructed the mall after an agreement with DMRC, had violated rules as no sanction has been taken from the civic body under building by-laws.

The DMRC had said it has permission to undertake such activities without any restrictive condition as per the approval of the GoM and Urban Development Ministry.
