The annual meeting of the defence ministers of India and Russia to review bilateral ties has been postponed from October 4 to October 10 as the Russian minister has decided to stay back in Moscow for a presidential programme.

The rescheduling of the visit comes at a time when Pakistan army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani reached Moscow on Wednesday for a three-day official visit.

Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov's hastily scheduled visit is being seen an attempt by Moscow to soothe the frayed nerves in Islamabad following President Vladimir Putin shelving his plans to visit Pakistan.
