Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said on Monday India welcomed US support for membership of multilateral regimes like the Nuclear Suppliers Group.

"We welcome US support for India's membership for multilateral export control regimes like the Nuclear Suppliers Group," Manmohan Singh said at a joint press conference with US President Barack Obama.

The prime minister said India and the US had "decided to broaden strategic dialogue in other areas and initiate joint steps in Africa and Afghanistan".

Obama, in his opening remarks to Indian and American journalists, said the two sides had consultations on a range of global issues.

"We agreed on consultations on global issues, including international institutions like the UN to reflect the reality of the 21st century," the US president said.
