Volunteers deployed during the 2010 Commonwealth Games would be trained in soft skills, and they would be trained by the best in the business.

Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) would develop and coordinate a volunteer programme for the Games and also set up help desks and information centres as part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the Organising Committee (OC) of Commonwealth Games on Tuesday.

As part of the tie-up, FICCI and the Commonwealth Business Club India (CBCI) would help in promoting sports and market India as the preferred business partner and destination. It would also help the OC in raising sponsorship for the event and support it in marketing efforts for the Commonwealth Games.

FICCI’s secretary general Amit Mitra said information centres installed across the city would ensure that ‘nobody is lost’. Help and information would be readily available for foreign athletes, officials and tourists in Delhi for the event.
“We would give soft skill training to volunteers and they would get a customer focus,” Mitra said.

“We have already signed a similar tie-up with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII),” said Suresh Kalmadi, chairman of the OC.

“We can leverage the Games to help promote India’s economic potential and attract greater economic co-operation from 71 Commonwealth nations and federations,” said CBCI co-chairman Vikramjit Singh Sahney.
