Is the development fee of Rs 200 and Rs 1,300 being collected at the IGI airport from each departing domestic and international passenger respectively permissible? Delhi High Court will decide on it.
The court on Wednesday sought a “detailed response” by July 8 from the Centre, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Delhi International Airport (DIAL) on a PIL challenging the fee. Petitioner NGO Resources of Aviation Redressal Association has termed the levy as “ex-facie illegal” and “unconstitutional”.
“No additional service whatsoever apart from what was already being provided for in IGI is being provided to... passengers. Some extra facility has to be provided to justify the collection of fee,” the PIL said.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation had said the fee, which came into effect on March 1, 2009, would be collected for 36 months.
The petitioners have urged the court to restrain the authorities from levying the fee.
