A vigilante, attention-seeker or simply senile? 28-year-old Utsav Sharma might be all the above.
Sharma is a gold medallist in Applied Arts from Benaras Hindu University (BHU) and a National Institute of Designing, Ahmedabad pass-out.
On January 21, he came to the Capital to take part in the World Arts Summit and stayed at Shri Lal Bahadur Shashtri Sanskrit Vidyapeeth in Katwaria Sarai in South Delhi.
His father Sushil Kumar Sharma, a professor in the department of mechanical engineering at BHU, faxed the educational institution twice, firstly to seek permission for Utsav to stay at their guesthouse and then to extend his stay.
Before leaving for Ghaziabad on Tuesday afternoon, Utsav’s father said, “I spoke to him on Monday night and he said he will leave for Ahmedabad after watching the Republic Day parade in Delhi.”
Utsav’s mother Indira Sharma, a psychiatry professor at BHU, said he was mentally ill and was being treated in Ahmedabad. She, however, refused to disclose the disorder. Sources close to Utsav's parents said Utsav was suffering from bipolar disorder.
Blast accused was next target
If police officials interrogating Utsav Sharma are to be believed, he was planning to attack Varanasi bomb blast accused Wali Ullah. Ullah is lodged at Dasna jail in Ghaziabad.
“The high-profile cases end up nowhere. I had plans to attack Varanasi bomb blast accused also," Sharma reportedly told the police.
