Jamiat to discuss terror next month

A conference early next month in Hyderabad of more than 10,00 clerics and community leaders belonging to Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind will deliberate on ways to prevent radical tendencies among Muslims.

Jamiat, the country’s biggest and best organised Muslim organisation, boasts of 10 million membership and national presence. Founded in 1919, it had opposed India’s partition on religious lines.

The conference is politically significant as it is scheduled before the coming Lok Sabha elections. Polls have already been announced for five state assemblies as well.

Jamiat leader and Rajya Sabha member Mahmood Asad Madani, however, said the focus of the conference would be terrorism.
