The two Japanese women tourists, assaulted in Agra, fly back after filing an FIR, reports Vijaita Singh.

Two Japanese women tourists were allegedly raped by three men in Agra last week. The women, in their early 20s, flew back to Japan on Saturday night after lodging a complaint at the Indira Gandhi International Airport police station.

The women had reported the matter to the Japanese embassy, which in turn got in touch with Delhi police and a 'Zero FIR' was registered. A Zero FIR can be registered anywhere in the country and the matter is subsequently transferred to the concerned area, which in this case will be Agra. Police have registered a case of rape and criminal intimidation against the three accused.

The two women landed in India in the last week on August. Subsequently, they went on a tour of Jaipur and Agra. "They reached Agra on September 18 and checked into a hotel. The following day they went to a recreation centre close by and met two men, Raees and Sunny. It seems they got friendly with these two guys because one of them could speak a bit of Japanese. Also, they offered the two girls the option of moving into a cheaper hotel. Next morning, when they met these men again, they claimed they were drugged and sexually abused. When they regained consciousness, they found themselves in an unknown place," said Aditya Arya, joint commissioner of police (operations).

Two days later these women met another person, called Rajan Singh, who claimed he was a UK national. He too raped them. The women underwent a medical test at Safdarjung hospital. "The report is awaited," Arya said.

The police said that the women were not able to provide them with the exact location of the scene of crime. "The women have given us a camera and a CD containing photographs of the accused. We have forwarded them, along with the FIR, to the Agra police. We have also taken their clothes and sent them for forensic tests," said another police officer.

The Delhi Police said that the onus of investigation now lies with the Agra police. On being asked why the two women did not stay on for investigations, the police said they did not want to miss their flight.
