Before entering politics, Chauhan was a lawyer in the district court.

Education: He graduated with an honours degree in Political Science from Kirori Mal College, followed by a Law degree from the same college.

Political Career: Chauhan joined politics in 1998. He was the general secretary of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee. He entered electoral fray for the first time in 1998, contested and won from Bhalswa Jahangirpuri seat. He won again in 2003.

Family: Wife Prem is a homemaker. They have a son and a daughter. Chauhan loves to read books on history and heritage. “I am also very passionate about Delhi’s glorious heritage and whenever I get an opportunity I do my bit to preserve our rich cultural heritage. I also visit historical monuments whenever I get time,” he said.

Cars: Chauhan travels in his old Hyundai Santro. His favourite – a Mahindra Scorpio SUV – was stolen recently.
