The Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) under Delhi University on Tuesday kicked off its academic session for the 2008-2010 batch with a lecture by former president APJ Abdul Kalam, an adjunct faculty at FMS.

Kalam spoke on “The Nation and the Dynamics of Leadership”, a lecture structured on responses sent in by 43 students to the question “What do you dream to be by 2018?”

Praising the response from students, Kalam said the thoughts expressed helped him develop a good understanding of the young Indian minds and prepare the session for them.

Kalam’s address to the students included comprehensive talk about his 20-20 vision and challenges and opportunities that India faces. “The five areas which can be India’s core competency are agriculture, education and health care, IT, self reliance in technology and infrastructure. As future leaders you should have a vision and passion to transform the vision,” said Kalam. “You should be willing to travel the unexplored path, accept failure and share success,” he said.

FMS also initiated four new scholarships this year. The scholarships were awarded to Parthasarathy Bhaskar D and Gunjan Verma for topping the FMS entrance exam 2008. Neha Gupta and Achal Singhal, second-year students, also received scholarships for topping the first year at FMS. The total scholarship amount of Rs1lakh would be divided equally among the four candidates.
