A grilling and two verdicts — that sums up the coming three days for DMK Rajya Sabha member and daughter of Tamil Nadu chief minister Kanimozhi.
She faces the income tax (I-T) sleuths on Thursday, Tamil Nadu assembly poll result will be declared on Friday, and order on her bail plea in the 2G case will be announced on Saturday.
Kanimozhi has to appear before I-T authorities in Chennai at 12.30pm on Thursday. Her co-accused in the 2G spectrum scam and Kalaignar TV managing director Sharad Kumar has also been summoned for questioning at 11am by I-T authorities on the same day.
On the basis of summons from I-T authorities, Kanimozhi and Sharad Kumar had sought exemption from daily court appearance in the 2G scam for May 12 and 13, which they were granted.
But before they could leave for Chennai, there was another summon on the way. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) assistant director and investigating officer in the 2G scam had sought Sharad Kumar and Kanimozhi’s appearance on May 12 and 13 respectively in connection with ED’s probe into money laundering charges in the 2G scam.
Kanimozhi and Sharad Kumar on Wednesday visited the Delhi zone office of the ED to seek another exemption from the agency as they would be in Chennai on days they have been summoned, which was again granted to them.
Things will not be easy for Kanimozhi when the I-T sleuths question her on Thursday. She was asked to furnish her income tax returns, shares and investment in companies from 2004 onwards by the department.
Next day the all important verdict of the Tamil Nadu polls will be out, on which hinges a lot for her party, the DMK. And after that, the special court in the 2G scam will pronounce its order on her bail plea.
