A 19-year-old Kanwariya was killed and another injured after an unknown vehicle hit their motorcycle in Delhi Cantonment area in Southwest Delhi. The victims were on their way to Haridwar early on Monday.

Police said the incident happened around 3:00 a.m. A passerby spotted the two on the road in a pool of blood and informed the police. The deceased has been identified as Pawan Kumar, a resident of Delhi Cantonment area, and his friend Vijay Kumar (20).

The victims were taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, where the doctors declared Pawan dead on arrival, while Vijay is recuperating. The police have registered a case of hit and run.

Meanwhile, the onslaught of Kanwariyas continued in the Capital on Monday when around 50 Kanwariyas allegedly attacked a lone bus driver over a minor argument.

Police said around 10 am, Fakruddin, a driver with Haryana Roadways, had an argument with a few Kanwariyas in Burari in North Delhi. The driver had asked one of the pilgrims to give way to his bus.

“A heated argument broke out between him and the Kanwariyas. He was allegedly beaten up by them and the bus was also damaged,” said a senior police on the condition of anonymity, as he is not authorised to speak to the media.

Fakruddin was badly injured in the incident. Police said he was taken to Babu Jagjeevan Ram Hospital where he is undergoing treatment currently.

Meanwhile, the police have still not registered any case in connection with the incident and the Kanwariyas have continued with their journey. The police said they are questioning eyewitnesses about what exactly happened. This is the third incident in a little over 24-hours in which Kawariyas are involved.

On Sunday they caused major traffic jams and damaged several vehicles in Punjabi Bagh and Bawana areas in two separate but similar incidents.
