Before the onset of summer, the prisoners lodged at Karkardooma court complex would actually cool their heels, and breathe-easy in the country's first air-cooled lock-up facility inside a court premises.
The Delhi high court chief justice Deepak Mishra on Friday inaugurated the air-cooled lock-up and food outlet selling meals prepared by Tihar Jail inmates. The entire court complex has now become centrally air-cooled.
District judge Karkardooma court complex PS Teji said, “We should give humane treatment to the inmates visiting the court everyday. No prisoner would be discriminated.”
The Saket district court, which was inaugurated in September 2010, and considered to be one of the best court complexes, is yet to see any such facility in its premises.
Moreover, all the tiles inside the lock-up facility have been replaced with marble flooring. And, a refrigerator would also be installed for prisoners so that they can have clean and cold drinking water during the summers.
The security also has been beefed-up with the installation of video cameras that would tap each and every movement of the inmates inside the lock-up. Policemen deployed at the centralised monitor room would thus watch all the movements inside the facility.
