The Indian Railways witnessed its second derailment of week and fourth in three months on Saturday when the Kashi Vishwanath Express derailed at the New Delhi railway station in the evening.

There were no injuries or casualties, however, as the train was empty and moving to the washing line for maintenance at the time of the incident.

The train had reached platform number 5 of New Delhi station at 2 pm and after passengers deboarded, it was pulled towards the washing line around 3:57 pm.

“The last wheel of the engine derailed. But since the train was empty, no one was hurt. The cause of the incident is not known yet,” said a Northern Railway spokesperson.

Due to the incident, train operations were hit for sometime and the platform closed for half an hour.

On Thursday, the Ranchi Rajdhani Express had derailed near Minto Bridge in New Delhi. That was the third derailment since June 27 at New Delhi, the busiest station in the national capital handling over 2,500 trains and an average daily footfall of around 5 lakh peoplee.

In the second incident on August 22, an EMU train had ‘tilted’ on platform number three as it started to pull out of the station.
