Delhi University is known for its prestigious courses —English, Economics and other honours degrees. But there’s more to the 87-year-old place of learning than the conventional courses alone.
The university also offers a multitude of certificate and short-term courses in fields that are less conventional, more interesting and very relevant. These are courses that give students an add-on degree along with the regular UG degrees.
Gargi College has one such course in Vedic Mathematics. The course is based on ancient and time-tested formulae of mathematical knowledge, enhancing a student’s clarity in conceptions and computational skills.
Ramjas College runs three-month certificate courses in Conflict Resolution, Communication and self-development. These short-term courses have been devised to supplement students’ learning and building awareness.
Rajdhani College offers certificate course in fingerprint and document examination that enables students to sharpen their knowledge in forensic sciences.
Hindu College conducts certificate courses in “Green Chemistry”, which is a step towards preparing future scientists for adopting methods and designs in science, friendly to health and environment.
These unique add on courses can be undertaken by students of different colleges.
In Ramjas, however, 50 per cent seats are reserved for its own students.
There are limited seats for such courses and demand some prerequisite qualification for admission. The average fee for these courses ranges between Rs 3,000 and Rs 3,500. The duration is normally of three months, depending on the different courses in different colleges.
These courses offer an additional degree in quick time, making them more popular among students.
