Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the rape of minors in the national capital, saying the Delhi Police which reports to the Centre had failed to provide security to citizens.
“Repeated rape of minors is shameful and worrying. Delhi police has completely failed to provide safety. What are PM and his LG doing?” Kejriwal tweeted on his way to meet the families of the two victims.

Later, after visiting the girls at the hospitals, Kejriwal told reporters that he would request Modi to directly intervene and ask the police to create an “environment of security” in the capital. He said the state government was helpless in the matter as the Delhi Police now seemed accountable to nobody.
When a reporter asked whether the Centre-Delhi confrontation was harming the public, Kejriwal shot back: “ Will they cooperate with us? Right now, the Centre’s only job is to hamper our work and get our MLAs arrested at the slightest pretext.”
The chief minister also asked PM Modi to either act himself or give control over Delhi Police to the government of Delhi. He tweeted, “PM Modi should either himslf act or give control over Delhi police and public order to elected govt of delhi.”

He also said that if the situation does not improve in a year’s time, the Centre can take back the control of Delhi Police.

The CM tweeted that he is seeking time to meet the LG and PM to discuss the issue of women’s safety in Delhi.
Kejriwal’s outburst comes after two minors -- one five years old and the other two-and-a-half years old -- were gangraped in two separate incidents in Delhi on Friday night.
The five-year-old was allegedly assaulted by two men known to her family. The men, who were drunk at the time, were nabbed by people and handed over to police.
The two-and-half-year-old girl was allegedly abducted from near a ‘Ramlila’ event outside her home at Ranhola in West Delhi by two men on a motorcycle. She was gang-raped and dumped in the area with severe injuries. No arrests have been made in connection with the case.
