Where is the bed sheet on which Noida teenager Aarushi Talwar was found dead two years ago? Neither the CBI, which is investigating the case, seem to know nor the police.
On April 15, the Noida police received a letter from the CBI, which sought pieces of crucial evidence related to the murder of Aarushi Talwar — the bedsheet on which she was found dead and her room's doormat.
But the Noida police say pieces of the bed sheet with blood stains was handed over along with 14 other items - camera, CPU, laptop, broken lock, water bottle, handkerchief, bed etc - to the CBI team was back in June 2008.
"All records are with the CBI team. We are sending the reply to CBI. As per records, bed sheet sample was given but it is not clear which foot mat are they talking about. The CBI had taken all items related to the case. Noida Police has no case material," said a police officer on condition of anonymity.
Citing the importance of the bed sheet and the doormat, a senior forensic official said the bed sheet might have some seminal or blood stain or any other forensic evidence and, if investigated, they might give a clue.
The CBI had earlier asked Aarushi's parents to provide the items after they had undergone narco test at the Gandhinagar Forensic laboratory recently, they said.
The CBI team investigating the case had charged the UP police, who had first probed the case, with having destroyed 90 per cent of the evidence at the crime scene.
