With the sealing sword hanging over their heads, the traders of Khan Market are planning to convene a meeting to discuss the issue among themselves.
“A number of meetings have taken place but we haven’t been able to resolve the issue. Tomorrow (Thursday) we are going to hold a meeting, wherein all the traders of Khan Market will be present. This will allow them to give their viewpoints,”said a trader who owns a restaurant in Khan Market.
Some of the traders are also planning to discuss the issue with the Supreme Court- appointed Monitoring Committee. “We don’t have any concrete plan as of now. We are still assessing the authenticity of the notice. If it is authentic, we will look at all options that we have and will take the issue very seriously. The committee should listen to us with an open mind and should take our suggestions as well,” said Sanjeev Mehra, president of Khan Market Traders’ Association.
On Tuesday, the New Delhi Municipal Council had decided to seal all second and third floor establishments in the Khan Market, saying they are illegal. It has already started sending out notices to the owners of properties on the first floor who have set up businesses or rented out space by building additional floors.
