Four days after he was kidnapped, allegedly by his family’s maid and her lover, the eight-year-old son of a businessman in west Delhi’s Janakpuri was traced in Kasganj in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday night.
Police said the kidnapper(s), who had demanded a ransom of Rs. 50 lakh from his family, dropped the boy outside a local police chowki in Kasganj.
The boy is a Class 3 student of a well-known private school in west Delhi. He was allegedly kidnapped on October 21 by his maid Babita who was working on the instructions of her lover Monu, police said.
A police officer, on condition of anonymity, said the boy's father had contacted the police after he received a call from the Kasganj police telling him that his son was in their custody. The minor boy had given his father's mobile number to the police.
"Teams of west Delhi police, which were already camping in Uttar Pradesh to rescue the boy and nab his kidnappers, were told to contact the Kasganj police and secure the minor's custody," said the officer.
Police said Babita had promised the boy a carrom board and took him outside. "They left the house around 11.30am and when they did not return till late in the evening, the boy’s family lodged a complaint at Janakpuri police station. While police teams were searching for the boy and Babita, his father, who runs a mobile phone shop in Janakpuri, received a call on his mobile phone from an unknown number around 11.30pm demanding ransom,” added the officer.
During investigation the police learnt that Babita's paramour Monu, who has a previous criminal record, was also missing from his Noida house.
"His phone number was also switched off and nobody in their families knew about their location. The kidnappers made six ransom calls from different numbers and their location was established in Bulandshahr in UP. The kidnappers released the boy fearing that they would be caught," said the officer.
