With Madhu Koda turning into a political hot potato for it ahead of the Jharkhand polls, Congress on Tuesday sought to project him as one associated with the RSS and who was also a minister in the NDA government there.

"Koda was a minister in the BJP-led government in Jharkhand. He was also associated with RSS," party leader Shakeel Ahmed told reporters in New Delhi.

He was replying to queries on whether Congress' past support to the controversial former Jharkhand Chief Minister Koda will affect the party's performance in the state.

Congress is under attack from the BJP for having supported the government led by independent Madhu Koda, who is now facing money laundering and corruption cases.

Explaining the party's support to the Koda government, the Congress leader, however, said, "as far as we are concerned, we had not participated in the government led by Koda. We along with JMM, RJD and others supported his government for stability as we wanted to prevent frequent elections on people."

Dismissing suggestions that Koda factor may affect Congress' poll performance in Jharkhand, AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh said, "Koda is not an issue for us."

He added, "everybody will face consequences of what he does" adding tough action should be taken against anybody on whom allegations of corruption are proved.
