RJD chief Lalu Prasad’s allegation that mining barons Reddy brothers had paid huge bribes to BJP leaders evoked a sharp reaction from BJP leader Sushma Swaraj who retorted Congress had benefited from them.
Swaraj tweeted her response, saying that hefty bribes (mota maal) from the Reddys had also gone to the Congress party. Mining barons Reddy brothers were ministers in the Karnataka government led by the BJP but lost their ministerial berths after the damning Lokayukta report on illegal mining in the state.
The controversy began when Prasad hit out at Swaraj’s statement attacking the Congress on Monday, saying: “Everybody knows the Reddy brothers paid huge money (mota maal) to BJP leaders. I demand that a Parliamentary Committee be formed to probe the issue. I want to ask who got mota maal from the Reddy brothers."
“Shri Lalu Yadav wants to know as to who got mota maal from Reddy Bros? I would like to inform him and the country that the mota maal from Reddy brothers has also gone to the Congress,” Swaraj tweeted.
“All the mines were allotted to them by the Congress government on the recommendations of the Congress CM. I demand that all documents related to the recommendations and allotment to Reddy brothers be made public.”
She added, “The country will then know the truth as to who got them the monetary benefits and who made recommendations for them. All the facts should be placed before the nation.”
