The final day of application for nursery admissions saw a huge rush for submissions across city schools.
In the popular schools, the number of applications is much higher than the number of seats available.
At Springdales School, Pusa Road, 6,000 applications have been received against 47 seats in the general category and 2,000 applications have been received for 26 EWS seats.
Similarly, at Sardar Patel Vidyalaya, 3,500 applications have been received for 60 general category seats.
Similar is the story at other well-known schools across the city such as DPS, East of Kailash where 3,000 applications have been received for 90 general seats.
“The number of applications this year has gone up by nearly 20 per cent since last year. The EWS applications have also gone up from 1,200 last year to 1,500 this year. In fact, there is only a difference of 700 between the number of general forms and EWS forms in my school (2,700 general against 2,000 EWS),” said RK Sharma, principal, Ahlcon Public School.
Some schools, such as Mother’s International School, saw a last-minute rush with parents rushing to the school to submit applications on the last day.
“I did not apply to Mothers’ School earlier as they had the stipulation of owning a house near the school which I don’t but now that they have removed the requirement, I rushed in to fill the form at the last minute,” said Kavita Shandilya, a resident of Saket.
According to some NGO volunteers, meanwhile, many parents from the EWS category had a hard time submitting forms as some schools refused to accept them.
“Parents had a hard time on the last day as many schools did not let the parents enter and submit the form. At the office of the Deputy Director, Education (east), they were told that the school they wanted admission in, did not come in their zone and hence they couldn’t accept any forms at the help desk.
After a lot of running around the forms were filled but no receipt was given,” said Thomas Antony, member, Josh, an NGO that works in the field of education.
With the completion of the sale and submission of forms, the schools will now have to come out with the first list latest by February 15 and the second list by February 28.
