A day after the nude body of Subhash Gupta, a 52-year-old senior advocate and former president of the Delhi Tax Bar Association, was found at his office in Lalita Park, investigators have learnt that a diamond jewellery set worth over Rs.6 lakh was also missing from his office.

The incident came to light after Gupta's family members came to his office to check on him after he did not return home till late in the night. His cell phone was switched off, as well.

Subhash Gupta apparently suffocated to death after his killers gagged him. They had tied his hands and legs with tape and removed his clothes.

After the murder came to light in the early hours of Friday, Gupta's family members told the police that his mobile phone and wallet containing cash and office keys were missing.

A murder case was registered at the Shakarpur police station.

Meanwhile, investigations on Saturday revealed that Gupta had kept diamond jewellery set in a cupboard at his office and the same was missing.

"We learnt about the diamond jewellery set while questioning Gupta's colleagues. It was learnt that Gupta and some of his lawyer friends had purchased the jewellery set jointly. They wanted to gift it to the daughter of their common friend at her wedding a few days later," said an officer, adding that investigations were on to ascertain if Gupta had been killed for the jewellery.

Meanwhile, six teams have been constituted to probe the case from all possible angles. The teams are also examining the call details of Gupta's mobile phone, which is yet to be recovered. "We are making a list of all incoming and outgoing calls. More than 50 people, including Gupta's relatives and friends, have been questioned so far.

We have some concrete leads in the case and our teams are working on it," added the senior officer.

The police have also questioned Gupta's accountant KC Sharma, who was in the office till 8.30pm on Thursday. Gupta's body was found at 12:30am.

Gupta, a resident of Shanti Vihar near Anand Vihar, was also the general secretary of the Shanti Vihar resident welfare association and chairman of the IP Extension Ramlila Committee.
