Lawyers of all six district courts observed a day-long strike to protest an alleged attack on two advocates by the petrol pump employees of Ashok Nagar in East Delhi and lodging of a case against the assailants under milder charges.
The co-ordination committee of all Bar Associations of Delhi called for the strike, alleging that lawyers, Neeraj Sharma and Rajeev Sharma, were brutally assaulted by the employees of the said petrol pump.
The committee’s chairman, IS Saroha, said that the strike was successful and they have demanded for strict action against the police officials who, he said, misbehaved with the lawyers and initially did not register the FIR.
“The day-long strike at all the six district courts was a success as lawyers abstained from work. We have demanded strict action against the erring police officials, including the station house officer (SHO) of New Ashok Nagar police station,” Saroha said.
Alleging misbehaviour by the police when the advocates reached the police station for lodging the complaint, Saroha said, “We are demanding SHO’s suspension as he was completely involved in the offending act with the employees of the petrol pump.”
The strike affected the court proceedings in all the six district courts in the city — Patiala House courts complex, Tis Hazari courts, Karkardooma, Rohini, Saket and Dwarka courts.
