A city court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his wife by hanging her from the ceiling and attempting to pass it off as a suicide.
Additional Sessions Judge Narinder Kumar found Feroze guilty saying, "In the given circumstances, it was for Feroze to explain as to how did Tarannum suffer fresh injuries on her person. This goes to show that scuffle took place prior to Tarannum was hanged. The doctor has categorically opined that it was not a case of suicidal hanging."
The court also imposed a fine of Rs. 10,000 on Feroze.
On the intervening night of August 11-12, 2010, Feroze killed Tarannum by hanging her from the ceiling of their room.
The couple had married in 2007.
The court arrived at the conclusion that it was a case of murder and not suicide, considering the medical evidence that all injuries suffered by the victim were fresh and death occurred due to asphyxia caused by homicidal hanging by accused Feroze.
Saying that the medical opinion, which confirmed that the hanging was not suicidal but "homicidal", the court noted that Feroze's conduct in not rushing to his mother to inform that his wife has hanged herself and not calling the police went against him.
Feroze had claimed that he was sleeping with his wife in the same room and he found her hanging when he woke up late in the night.
