Power distribution company BSES, in association with the Delhi High Court Legal Services Committee, will organise a Special Lok Adalat for two days — on September 12 and 13 — on Delhi High Court premises, from 10 am onwards.
The aim of this Lok Adalat will be to give relief especially to consumers belonging to the lower and middle-income group.
The Special Lok Adalat will provide a unique opportunity to customers/ litigants for an amicable on-the-spot settlement of their power theft cases, relating to both Direct Theft and Dishonest Abstraction of Energy (DAE).
Cases that are either pending in any court of law or are yet to be filed and upto Rs 1 lakh will be taken up by the Lok Adalat.
Customers who want to settle their power theft cases can either come in person or through their advocates/authorised representatives, carrying a photo ID and a copy of their bill. “We had organised a similar Lok Adalat in March, which had seen a 92 per cent or over 2300 cases getting resolved on the spot. We are expecting similar response this time as well," said a BSES official.
A total of 12 courts (BRPL 7, BYPL 5) will be set up at the venue, which will also have 12 help desks manned by specially trained officials to assist consumers. Of these two helpdesks — one each — would cater to women, handicapped and senior citizens.
Showing concern for the environment, BSES and the Delhi High Court Legal Services Committee are taking special care to make this Lok Adalat a paperless one. There will be no physical movements of files. All relevant cases documents and files will be accessible from the 16 computers that will be deployed for the purpose.
