Uma Sharma(22) had informed her parents that her college friend Sanjay Aggarwal— who shot at her twice at New Rajinder Nagar on Sunday — was harassing her and could be a threat.
Police said Sharma, an engineer by profession, had started distancing herself from Aggarwal for several months as she suspected him to be "two-timing" her.
The woman, who is recuperating at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, told the police that Aggarwal had relations with other women also and so she started avoiding him.
Sharma was working with a private firm in Karol Bagh and was staying at a paying guest accommodation in C Block, New Rajinder Nagar.
On Sunday she had gone to take a competitive examination of MTNL and when she returned, she found Aggarwal waiting for her.
Aggarwal asked her about her exam and entered the room with her. Sharma went to the bathroom and asked him to wait, police said.
Sharma told the police when she came out of the bathroom he was holding a gun. "Before she could realize anything, he opened fire on her. She collapsed and doesn't remember anything after that," Sharma told the police from her hospital bed.
She told police that she was avoiding his calls and wanted to concentrate on her career.
"I had even informed my parents that he was harassing me. I stopped taking his calls and on Sunday he landed at my PG accommodation with a bunch of roses. He asked me about my examination and entered with me in my room," Sharma told the police.
Sharma and Aggarwal belong to Aligarh and completed their engineering from GLA Institute of Technology and Management. The police said they knew each other since college days. After completing her studies, Sharma got a job at Karol Bagh and was living here for the past seven months. Her father is an oil trader.
Aggarwal was working at a private firm in Jaipur.
The police have seized the weapon and sent Aggarwal's body for postmortem.
