The management of top luxury hotels, including the ITC Maurya, the Taj and the Oberoi, will help the Delhi Government maintain hygiene standards at the Common-wealth Games Village.

Unhappy with the performance of the Organising Commi-ttee, the Prime Minister’s Office on Wednesday asked the Delhi Government to rope in the hotels to maintain hygiene and provide services at the Games Village. Senior government officials said they are now taking the help of these hotels to provide best housekeeping at the residential complex.

“The two companies, which were entrusted with the housekeeping, have already been asked to leave. We are making alternative arrangements. The government will bear the cost of providing services at the residential complex,” said a senior Delhi government official, who didn’t wish to be named.

According to sources, the government has appointed one senior officer to look after each of the 34 towers individually. The officers will oversee the facilities and will be responsible for everything, including cleanliness, water, electricity supply, and housekeeping.

“We have identified problems in each flat and have also prepared a list of what is missing and what needs to be added. We have asked the Public Works Department to provide plum-bers and electricians to plug the loopholes. We have also made a checklist of each and every item required in the rooms and toilets,” said an in-charge.
