On Tuesday, a fast-track court in Noida awarded life-imprisonment to a domestic help, who allegedly murdered her employer. The deceased was a retired IAS officer.
According to the prosecution, the accused Pooja alias Bisakha was allegedly having an affair with the deceased and later started blackmailing him.
The accused had strangulated the victim.
"On July 27, 2008, Raghunandan Prasad (75), a retired IAS officer was found dead inside his apartment in Sector 24 police," said Om Prakash Yadav, Additional District Government Counsel told HT.
According to police investigations, Prasad had hired Pooja some time before his death.
"Later on, Prasad had alleged that the accused had committed theft in the house and had her replaced with another maid named Maya," added Yadav.
But he added that Pooja still continued to visit the house of the victim and meet him.
"Maya had told the police that though Pooja was no longer working as a maid, Prasad used to pay her every month. She was extorting money from him and blackmailed him that she would expose his illicit relationship with her," said Yadav.
"Additional District Judge, Fast Track Court, Mohammad Ibrahim on Monday awarded life imprisonment to Pooja, who confessed that she had strangulated the man to death," said Yadav.
