Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) leaders have found yet another excuse to go on a junket notwithstanding the Prime Minister's direction to cut costs.
Mayor Arti Mehra, standing committee chairman Vijender Gupta, leader of House Subhash Arya and leader of opposition JK Sharma are heading to Germany and Italy.
It will cost the civic agency Rs 36 lakh, but the politicians say that the trip should not be taken as a holiday but as an official trip.
After delaying the trip by over a month, they would leave on Wednesday for a week. They will apparently study the workings of an automated slaughterhouse and parking site and assess the usefulness of such technology in India.
"We were earlier supposed to go on June 8 but it could not materialise. We have decided to finally go on the study tour as we had made advance payment and the money was being held up," said Mayor Arti Mehra.
The delegation will visit Munich for the parking and slaughterhouse system and Frankfurt for solar system.
The Italy visit will be for study of solid waste management.
Recently, Mayor Arti Mehra had cancelled her trip to Germany, reacting to Prime Minster's call for austerity. Mehra had also stated that a team of MCD officials would be sent on the visit, as the advanced money would not be refunded.
