Mamata to invite PM, Sonia

Mamata Banerjee, who was on Sunday elected leader of the Trinamool Congress legislature party, arrived in the capital late on Sunday evening to invite Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi to the swearing-in ceremony of the new West Bengal government.

Senior Congress leader Pranab Mukherjee, who also came to Delhi along with Banerjee from Kolkata, told reporters that the Trinamool leader had come to invite Gandhi and the prime minister to the ceremony as "it was a major change in Bengal".

He said it was because of "charismatic leadership" of Banerjee that the Marxists were defeated in the state after 34 years of uninterrupted rule.

Banerjee, who has invited Congress to join the new government, indicated that all issues would be discussed during her meeting with Gandhi.
