Two men were injured in firing outside the Dwarka court in south-west Delhi on Wednesday. Ankit Dagar, who had come for a hearing, and a juice vendor were injured in the incident.
Eyewitnesses told the police that the incident took place at around noon, when two men, who came on a black-coloured motorcycle, fired a shot at Dagar. The men fired a second time before fleeing the spot injuring the juice vendor.
Dagar is an accused in a molestation case filed in 2014 by his former friend.
At the time of the incident, the woman’s relatives were present on the court premises.
“There was an argument between Dagar and the woman’s relatives after which he stormed out of the court complex. The moment he came out, two men fired at him near gate number 3 next to the juice stall. He was hit on the left side of the chest. The juice seller was hit on his hand. Doctors told us their condition is stable,” said an investigating officer.
A security guard posted outside the court complex said: “We heard a loud bang and then saw people running. Two men on a motorcycle zoomed past. One of the victims ran inside the court complex. The other one ran towards the Metro station. ”
Police said they are probing the role of the woman’s husband and her brothers in the case.
“Dagar knew the woman and they were friends once. The woman got married some years ago but it appears Dagar was constantly harassing her. Her family members were upset about this and had warned him,” police said.
Police are scanning the CCTV footage of the court premises to identify the bikers.
Police suspect the bikers may have used a motorcycle with a fake number plate.
“We have got leads in the case and will crack this case soon,” said Deependra Pathak, joint commissioner of police (South-West).
