The two were partners in crime and had got life imprisonment in a robbery-cum-murder case in 2001. However, one of them, Nafisur, 35, managed to get interim bail in 2006 and decided to start life afresh. In these five years, he did not contact his accomplice, Akil, 36, who he was in jail.
On Tuesday evening, Nafisur went to meet Akil when he learnt that the latter was out on bail. His sudden visit angered Akil and he attacked Nafisur with an iron rod with an intention to kill him, said a police official.
Akil has been arrested and Nafisur is battling for life in a government hospital.
The police came to know about the incident after it received a PCR (police control room) call.
The incident was reported from central Delhi’s Chandi Mahal area.
“A police team reached the spot and found Nafisur in a pool of blood. He was taken to a hospital. Investigation revealed that Nafisur was attacked by Akil, his old partner in crime who had recently been released on bail,” said a police official.
“A case of attempt to murder has been registered against Akil and a manhunt was launched to nab him. He was arrested late in the night,” the official added.
