In an apparent case of road rage, a businessman was mercilessly beaten up by a car mechanic when his car grazed pass the former's car in north west Delhi's Kohat Enclave on Saturday morning.

According to the police, the victim, Rajiv Aggarwal, was thrashed in front of his wife and son when he protested against the accident allegedly committed by Puran, an auto mechanic. A case under Sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) has been registered against Puran, a resident of Mangolpuri. Puran was arrested and later released on bail, the police said.

Romil Baniya, additional DCP (north west) said that Puran, who works at a car showroom- cum-service centre in Subhash Place, was driving to his office with a male friend in an Alto. On the way, at Kohat Enclave traffic signal, his car touched a Hyundai i-10 that was being driven by Aggarwal. An argument broke out between them and Puran pushed the front door of Aggarwal's car when the latter was trying to come out of it. Due to the sudden push, Aggarwal suffered minor bruises on his face," said Baniya.

While Puran claimed that it was Aggarwal who broke his car's windscreen, the police have said that the correct sequence of event would be ascertained only after investigation.
