Six years after he used a wooden bat to batter his rival to death in west Delhi, the law finally caught up with 25-year-old Arjun on Wednesday.
Chhaya Sharma, DCP (south) said Arjun had been evading arrest since ever since he landed fatal blows on the victim’s head on January 10, 2005 during a cricket match at Uttam Nagar.
“Both Arjun, who was 19 at the time, and Manoj, the victim, belonged to rival gangs of budding criminals and clashed over a minor issue while playing cricket. Arjun lost his cool and used a cricket bat to land fatal blows on Manoj’s head,” DCP Sharma said.
Manoj was sent to DDU Hospital where he died after two days. While three of his other associates, Yogesh, Shiv and Raju were arrested soon after, Arjun managed to give police a slip for six years. He didn’t even figure on the police list of proclaimed offenders.
Arjun, now married with a child, was nabbed from Vasant Vihar on January 4.
“We are verifying his antecedents and investigating his involvement in other criminal activities during his six-year hiatus,” DCP Sharma added.
