A day after two minor girls died of drowning on Wednesday, the body of their father was found lying on the railway tracks at Karkar Model area near Sahibabad railway station on Thursday, police said.
The minors, who were twin sisters, were found dead inside the bathroom of their flat at Vaishali in Ghaziabad.
Twenty eight-year-old Anil Kumar Rai’s body was found near the railway tracks around 8am on Thursday morning, police and GRP officials said. The police suspect it to be a case of suicide. “He was run over by a train in a case of possible suicide. His body was found without the head, which was probably blown away due to the impact of the train. If need be, we will conduct a DNA test of the body,” said Hemant Mishra, circle officer of government railway police (GRP).
Police officials said the family has identified the victim’s body. According to his family members, Rai was mentally unstable and undergoing treatment at the IHBAS at Shahdara in Delhi since 1994. On Wednesday, he had gone missing, police said.
Just after he went missing, the bodies of his two minor daughters — aged four — were recovered from their flat. Both the girls were found drowned under mysterious circumstances inside the bathroom of their flat. Sub-inspector Sanjeev Kumar, who reached the spot soon after the incident on Wednesday, said, “Both the children were found drowned upside down in a tub and a bucket inside the bathroom. Their deaths have raised suspicion. The incident doesn’t seem to be an accident.”
The police had also recovered a note written by Rai from his residence on Wednesday. The letter was addressed to his wife. “I am not up to your mark. Now you are free…,” read the the note. Although the family members have not lodged any police complaints following the three deaths, Ghaziabad senior superintendent of police (SSP) Raghubir Lal said the three deaths have raised some serious doubts. “We will conduct a thorough inquiry into the two incidents,” the SSP said.
However, Rai’s father has denied possibility of his son’s involvement behind his grandchildren’s death.
