Terming it a “heinous” and “rarest of the rare” case, a Delhi fast track court on Tuesday sentenced a 56-year-old man to death for raping and killing a three-year-old girl in the Capital about two years ago.
Additional sessions judge Virender Bhat awarded capital punishment to farmhouse guard Bharat Singh for raping the minor daughter of a rickshaw-puller.
“There cannot be anything worse than this that a man can do while raping a minor. He did not heed the cries of the minor victim during the commission of the offence. It was a ghastly and heinous crime and the convict opted to do it in such a brutal manner that her internal organs were pulled out,” Bhat, who heads one of the five-fast track courts recently set up to try crimes against women in Delhi, said.
“Such persons are a menace to the society”, the judge said rejecting his plea for leniency. The court also imposed a fine of R1 lakh on the convict.
On April 10, 2011 the minor girl who was playing outside her house in the evening lost her way and strayed towards a nearby farmhouse. Singh who was alone on duty at the farmhouse, lured the girl inside and raped her.
She died during the sexual assault. Her body was recovered two days after the incident. The girl’s father had filed a missing person’s report.
The prosecution had said the guard, after realising that the girl was dead, threw her at a secluded spot inside the farmhouse.
It said the guard did not throw the body outside the farmhouse for fear of being spotted by workers, engaged in construction of a road outside the farmhouse.
