The police arrested on Wednesday a 26-year-old man for robbing a truck loaded with cigarette cartons worth Rs 75 lakh in Gurgaon in Haryana last month.

"Deepak Gupta, a resident of Modi Nagar in Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested from Yudhisthar Setu in Kashmere Gate area following inputs that he was on his way to sell the looted cigarette cartons," said IB Rani, deputy commissioner of police (north).

During the checking at Yudhisthar Setu, Gupta was found standing on the road side, with some packed cartons, worth an approximate Rs 4 lakh. During interrogation, he failed to give a satisfactory reply about the cartons.

On April 26, Gupta and four others had intercepted a truck, loaded with 355 cartons of cigarettes near Jhadsa flyover on National Highway 8 with another vehicle.

During interrogation, Gupta said he indulged himself in such activities as he was heavily in debt and was looking for an opportunity to make quick money.
