Man held while trying to sell stolen jewellery in Karol Bagh

The Crime Branch of Delhi Police on Tuesday arrested a 31-year-old man and his associate in central Delhi for allegedly robbing a businesswoman of her diamond jewellery about a year ago.
Pradeep Bajaj (31) was arrested along with Asit Bera (36), who allegedly bought the stolen jewellery from Karol Bagh last Friday.
"We received a tip-off that Bajaj would be coming to Karol Bagh to sell the jewellery," the police said.
"The victim was into the business of exporting diamond jewellery and Bajaj had met her through a common friend," said Ashok Chand, deputy commissioner of police (crime).
"He then struck a business deal with the complainant. He came to her house in Ashok Vihar with a bag that, he pretended, held a large sum of cash," Chand added.
The complainant then showed him diamond jewellery worth around Rs 36 lakh.
During the conversation, Bajaj requested for tea and somehow managed to put some sedatives in the complainant's teacup. She fell unconscious and he then decamped with the jewellery.
Bajaj has studied till Class 12 and then joined the family business of readymade garments. Later, the business suffered loses and he started working with a boutique owner.
Meanwhile, the west Delhi police arrested four men for allegedly looting cash and jewellery worth Rs 20 lakh in a Kirti Nagar house on Tuesday.
The robbery had taken place a day before.
"The arrested have been identified as Veer Bahadur (22), Satbir (23), Raju (19) and Atique (19)," said V Renganathan, DCP (West).
The police recovered Rs 7.70 lakh in cash and jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh from them.
