After a motorist was grievously injured when two iron rods pierced through him, the police have registered a case against the driver of a truck overloaded with iron rods which caused the accident.

“We registered a case against the unidentified man who was driving the truck carrying iron rods,” assistant commissioner of police (NIT) Romesh Pal said. “The truck has been seized and efforts are now on to trace the driver.”

According to the police, the driver was booked under sections 279 (rash driving) and 337 (causing hurt by action endangering other lives) of the Indian Penal Code.

The police said the accident occurred on Surajkund Road when a man, Anil Kumar, was impaled on the rods in the truck on Monday afternoon. Kumar was taken to a nearby hospital where a team of doctors successfully operated on him and removed two rods. He is now in recovery. After the mishap, the driver fled the scene.
