A daughter's lover has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a Delhi court for killing her mother's paramour who disapproved of the girl's relationship with the convict and had forbidden the two from talking on the phone.
Four years after Robin (27), a resident of Sonepat, shot at Munna Singh in Prashant Vihar, additional sessions judge (ASJ) Gurdeep Singh Saini sentenced him to a life time imprisonment saying , "Keeping in view the facts and circumstances of the case, I am of the opinion that ends of justice would be met in sentencing the convict to under rigorous imprisonment for life…" The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on him.
On the morning of September 12, 2008, Singh was cleaning his car when Robin, who had been lurking on the streets, killed him. According to prosecution, Robin was upset over Singh not allowing his girlfriend Swati (name changed) to call him up. The victim lived with Swati's mother and took care of her children.
The court rejected the defense's contention that Robin was falsely implicated in the case and convicted him of Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. The court said , "Prosecution has succeeded in proving that Swati had an affair with the accused which was objected to by her mother and the deceased .”
