A 30-year-old man brutally axed down his 65-year-old father at their home near Tronica City in Loni in Ghaziabad early on Saturday morning.

The motive behind the murder was a financial crunch, police officials said.

Pravin Kumar allegedly had an ongoing feud with his father over a financial demand he had been making for the past couple of months.

“The accused and his elder brother are both married and faced a financial crunch and wanted their father to help them out with some money,” said Pramod Kumar, Loni station officer.

The father ran a construction business and did not help out his sons who were unemployed, police said.

The altercation assumed larger proportions on Friday, police said.

“Pravin Kumar used an axe to bludgeon his father and then beheaded him in a fit of anger,” the police officer said.

“The victim died an instant death,” he added.

Later, Pravin Kumar surrendered to the police along with the murder weapon and confessed to his crime, officials said.

A case was registered against the accused at Loni police station under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
