Constant pestering by his live-in partner to leave his wife and children drove a 30-year-old man to kill her and then burn the chopped pieces of her body at a village in Haryana.
But an alert neighbour of the victim helped the police nab the accused. On Tuesday night, the neighbour had seen the man dragging a big bag towards a waiting car and had called the police. The caller had told the police that it seems that the bag contained a body and also gave the car's registration number to the police.
Tejender Luthra, joint commissioner of police (northern range), said, "The accused had fled from the spot by the time police reached his Rohini flat. The caller told the police that he had seen two men wearing gloves dragging a bag to the car. The police found blood stains inside the flat."
The police conducted several raids and finally nabbed the accused, Anil Kumar alias Umakant, from outside the house in Rohini Sector 2 where he had returned to destruct the evidence.
During the interrogation, he told the police that the woman's name was Rachna and that they started living together after leaving their respective spouses. Rachna worked in a factory owned by the accused.
"Kumar had developed a relation with Rachna as her relationship with her husband was strained. She later left her husband and Kumar left his wife. He arranged for a flat for her in Rohini Sector 2," Luthra added.
Police said but Kumar still visited his wife and met his two daughters. Rachna was pressuring him to leave them.
"Kumar was bearing all of Rachna's expenses besides spending on his wife and two minor daughters. Fed up with Rachna's constant demand of leaving his family, Kumar decided to kill her," said P Karunakaran, additional DCP (outer).
Police said Kumar killed Rachna on Saturday morning but waited till night to dispose of the body. He had already purchased a red suitcase to stuff the body. Unable to dispose of the body alone, he called his friend and put the body in the car.
The duo then drove towards Haryana. They purchased petrol from a petrol pump on the way and took the body near Rasoi Village on Panipat highway in Haryana, police said.
Police said the men then burnt the body there and returned to Delhi. The accused then dropped his associate at Ashok Vihar area and returned to Rithala, where he parked his car.
Police have recovered the half burnt body of the victim and have started looking for Kumar's friend.
