The Delhi Police have arrested a 22-year-old man, son of an Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) staff, for posing as a sub-inspector and cheating job-seekers. The accused, identified as Robin Khan, was arrested from Punjab.

The arrest came following investigations into a complaint filed by hotel owner Jai Bharat, who claimed that he was cheated of Rs. 2.14 lakh by Khan, who promised his brother a job in the Railways and also withdrew money from his ATM card, which he stole.

"Khan had collected several lakhs of rupees by posing as a sub-inspector of the Delhi Police and promising people a job in the government sector," said Devesh Chandra Srivastava, additional CP (Central).

The accused is familiar with the police working as his father works with the ITBP as an assistant sub-inspector. Khan had also taken the Delhi Police examination, but failed. Later, he got a uniform from the local market in Wazirabad and convinced everybody that he had joined the Delhi Police.

"In order to win the victim's trust, he would meet them in police uniform," Srivastava added. Bharat informed the police that Khan was in his school. Recently, he bumped into him at Karol Bagh, where Khan told him that he had joined the Delhi Police. He allegedly told Bharat that he can get his brother a job and took Rs. 2.14 lakh from him.

Police said Khan cheated people to support his luxurious lifestyle.
