An unidentified man was killed in central Delhi early Sunday morning when a speeding car rammed into the central verge of the road where the victim was sleeping, police said.

The incident took place near Kabootar market near Jama Masjid at around 2.40 am.

The driver of the car apparently lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the central verge where the victim was sleeping. The deceased, who is yet to be identified, is aged around 45.

The driver fled the spot leaving behind the car, which bears a Delhi registration number.

"Efforts are on to trace the driver. The road has a lot of potholes. He might have lost control of the vehicle. Once we catch him, only then we will be able to tell the exact reason for the accident," a senior police official said.
